How do I identify my bell housing J-code?

It is stamped into the casting of your original Toyota A340 automatic bell housing. A J3 plate can also be requested after ordering at the same price.

Can I use the front mount shifter in an IS300?

No. The front mount sits far enough forward that it lands in the center of the radio. Use the rear mount shifter.

What is included in the Base Kit?

The bell housing to transmission adapter plate, the hybrid ASE flywheel that allows use of a 350Z or 370Z single-disc clutch assembly, the transmission cross member and mount, all necessary hardware, the pilot bearing, and the main shaft bearing rings for 90mm, 95mm and 100mm bearing transmissions.

Which slave cylinder does this kit use?

The T56 99 Camaro slave cylinder. When installed it should sit fully compressed against the pressure plate fingers with no preload, and it must go on before the bell housing is bolted to the adapter plate.

Is a driveshaft included?

No. Driveshafts are ordered separately. Steel and aluminum are both built on 3 inch tube, and carbon is also offered.

What clutch kits is this compatible with?

Single-disc 350Z/370Z clutch kits from ACT, SPEC, Competition, Clutch Masters and others, on the ASE custom flywheel. These clutches were originally designed for the 350Z/370Z engine and transmission pairing, so in this hybrid JZ conversion the fitment and clutch hub bearing clearance must be checked during installation — manufacturers periodically change sources and designs.

What do the LHD and RHD master cylinder options mean?

They set the master cylinder bore and brand for left or right hand drive — 3/4 or 7/8 inch Tilton for LHD, 3/4 or 7/8 inch Wilwood for RHD.

What are the torque specs for the adapter plate and bell housing?

Adapter plate countersunk bolts torque to 30 ft-lb and the bell housing torques to 40 ft-lb. Both are engraved on the bottom of the plate.

Should I use thread locker on the adapter plate bolts?

No. The countersunk bolts are small and only torque to 30 ft-lb, so aggressive thread locker means stripping the heads the next time the plate comes off for service.

Do I need to cut the spud to fit the adapter plate?

No. The recess on the ASE plate is machined deep enough to clear it. This was addressed by a design change years ago, but the old advice about cutting it still circulates on forums.

The J-code refers to the Toyota A340 automatic bell housing and is stamped into the casting of your original automatic bell housing. Check there before ordering. A J3 plate can be requested after the order is placed at the same price.

Shifter

Use the rear mount shifter in an IS300. The front mount shifter is not usable in this chassis — it sits far enough forward to land in the center of the radio.

Slave cylinder

This cut-version kit uses the T56 99 Camaro slave cylinder for correct throw. The slave should sit fully compressed against the pressure plate fingers when installed, with no preload. Install it before bolting the bell housing to the adapter plate — afterwards the lines cannot be routed.
