How do I know whether I have a J1, J2 or J3 bell housing?

The J-code is stamped into the casting of your original Toyota A340 automatic bell housing. Check the casting to confirm before selecting. If you need a J3 plate you can also request one after placing the order — the kits are the same price.

Which slave cylinder does this kit use?

The T56 99 Camaro slave cylinder, which gives the correct throw on the cut-version kit. When installed it should sit fully compressed against the pressure plate fingers with no preload.

Should I choose the front or rear mount shifter?

Rear mount for a 350Z chassis. The front mount sits much further forward and cannot be used in a Supra MKIV, SC300, GS300 or IS300.

What is included in the base kit?

Adapter plate, flywheel, hardware, pilot bearing and bearing rings. The flywheel has a replaceable friction pad surface and a hardened steel starter ring gear.

What clutch kits does this work with?

Single-disc 350Z/370Z clutch kits from ACT, SPEC, Competition, Clutch Masters and others, running on the ASE custom flywheel made for the CD009 clutch.

What does the pilot bushing adapter do?

It adapts the flywheel center bore to the Nissan 16mm input shaft.

What are the torque specs for the adapter plate and bell housing?

Adapter plate countersunk bolts torque to 30 ft-lb and the bell housing torques to 40 ft-lb. Both values are engraved on the bottom of the plate, though the bell housing covers the engraving once installed.

Should I use thread locker on the adapter plate bolts?

No. The countersunk bolts are small and only torque to 30 ft-lb. Applying thread locker aggressively means stripping the bolt heads the next time the plate needs to come off for service.

Do I need to cut the spud to fit the adapter plate?

No. The recess on the ASE plate is machined deep enough to clear it. This was addressed by a design change years ago, but the old advice about cutting it still circulates.

When should the slave cylinder be installed?

Before bolting the bell housing to the adapter plate. Once the bell housing is installed the slave cannot be positioned and the lines cannot be routed, so it will have to come back off.

This cut-version kit uses the T56 99 Camaro slave cylinder to achieve the correct throw. The slave should sit fully compressed against the pressure plate fingers when installed, with no preload.

Install the slave cylinder before bolting the bell housing to the adapter plate. Once the bell housing is on, the slave cannot be positioned or the lines routed.
