  • What is the purpose of the single hump?

    The hump is there for several reasons. Primarily, it is to absorb movement to the components it's connected to a bit better than a normal straight silicone coupler. In an intercooler or charge pipe system, couplers are essentially joints in the system, so including the boost pressures they see, they also have to deal with engine movement. That movement transfers directly to these joints and cause a lot of stress, so these reinforced humps are crucial to these couplers staying connected with the movement and gives a bit of a buffer.

    They can also provide a bit of wiggle room with piping that may be slightly misaligned. If your intercooler doesn't have a perfectly straight connection to the charge pipe, a straight coupler will work but not for long. If you use a coupler with a hump, it better compensates for this slight misalignment and you won't have to worry about it slipping off.

    How do I choose the right size for me?

    If you are unsure what size you need, measure the outer diameter of the pipe or connection and match it the best you can to our table below. If the exact size is not available, the next smaller size may suffice depending on the elasticity and application. Give us a call if you are still unsure!

    What is the difference between silicone couplers and rubber couplers?

    Silicone couplers offer better resistance and longevity over rubber. Rubber is cheap and easy to manufacture, which is why nearly all cars from the factory come with rubber couplers for intercooler and charge pipe connections that will wear out and cause boost leaks over time. By choosing silicone over rubber, you are performing cheap maintanence and preventing wear-and-tear failures.

    What sets BOOST silicone couplers apart from the competition?

    There are several factors that make our silicone truly unique. Every silicone hose or coupler that leaves our warehouse comes with an imprinted QR code that contains all of our rigorous testing protocols and burst pressures. You yourself can check and verify this information to ensure you are getting a silicone hose backed with the most thorough quality assurance standards on the market.

    BOOST silicone also all come with a high Shore A hardness rating. Shore A hardness is a scale to determine the hardness of plastics and rubber, that scale goes from 0-100. Our silicone comes with a 70 (±5) Shore A hardness, which means it doesn't bend easily and retains much better shape under pressure or vacuum loads than the more commonly found 40 Shore A hardness in other silicone. So with our hardness rating, you can be sure you are getting proper airflow under boost or intake applications without deformation.

    What type of clamps should I use on this coupler?

    For applications that see more load or pressure, we recommend using T-bolt clamps or torque clamps - both of which we offer! Standard worm gear clamps are not recommended for these couplers, especially if they are being used for intercooler connections, which is one of their most common use cases. They can cut into the material causing boost leaks. It's always a safer bet to use a T-bolt clamp as they can better ensure 360 degree clamping force on the hose without cutting into it. It is standard practice to have heavy duty clamps to ensure they won't slip off or tear.

    Some other things to consider...

  • Remember that the diameter always refers to the inner diameter, so be sure to consider that when choosing the size for you.
  • An easy way to figure out the right clamp size, multply the hose's wall thickness by 2. That will give you the right size!
  • If you are having trouble finding the exact size, the next smaller size is usually enough to suffice.
